Privacy Policy
Last updated: December 7, 2025
Your privacy is important to us. Gratitude is designed to be a safe, personal space for your thoughts,
your journaling, and your AI conversations.
1. What data do we collect?
We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to make the app work:
-
Journal entries & history:
When you write a reflection, it is stored in our database (Supabase) and linked to your unique
device/account ID. A copy is also stored locally on your device so the app keeps working offline.
-
AI chat messages:
When you use the AI chat, your messages and the AI’s responses are processed by our AI provider
to generate the reply. We may the conversation text together with your device ID for 24 hours so you can
see your chat history and so the feature works reliably.
-
Pet & game progress:
We store your level, XP, coins, streak, daily goals, pet stats (hunger, energy, cleanliness),
items, equipped items, backgrounds and friends/neighbors. This is needed so your garden and bird
look the same when you reopen the app or switch device.
-
Device and identifiers:
We generate a random
device_id and a friend code (e.g. AB12CD) to link
your data to your device and to let you connect with friends. We do not collect your exact location.
-
Notification preferences:
We store whether you enabled notifications, your chosen reflection time, and your streak reminder,
so we can send you reminders at the time you selected.
-
Optional contact info:
If you link a phone number or send us an e-mail, we store that information to help you restore or
manage your account.
-
Purchases & subscriptions:
Premium subscriptions are handled via RevenueCat, Apple App Store and Google Play. We receive
non-sensitive information about your entitlement status (e.g. whether you have Premium), but we do
not store or see your full payment card details.
-
Analytics & attribution:
We may use analytics and attribution tools (such as AppsFlyer) to understand how the app is used
(for example, which screens are popular) and where installs come from. This helps us improve the
app, but we do not sell this data.
2. How do we use your data?
Your data is used solely to provide and improve the app, including:
- Saving and showing your journal entries and gratitude history.
- Providing AI chat responses and enforcing the daily free-chat limit in the free version.
- Keeping your pet, items, goals and streak in sync between sessions and devices.
- Sending push notifications at your chosen reflection time and streak reminders.
- Managing your Premium subscription and restoring purchases on a new device.
- Improving stability and user experience through anonymous analytics and crash reports.
3. Journaling & AI chat privacy
Gratitude is meant to be a private space. We do not have a public feed, and your journal entries and
chat logs are not visible to other users.
-
Journal entries:
Your reflections are linked to your device/account and stored in our database plus a local backup
on your phone. This allows the app to work offline and later synchronise when you are online again.
We do not sell or rent your journal data to third parties.
-
AI conversations:
Your AI chat messages are sent to an AI model provider to generate answers. This processing is
required for the feature to work. We do not use your chat content to create advertising profiles
about you or to sell it to other companies.
-
Sensitive information:
Please avoid sharing extremely sensitive personal information (such as full medical records or
passwords) in your entries or chats. If you choose to do so, you do this at your own discretion.
4. Do we share data?
We do not sell your personal data or journal entries to third parties.
We only share your data with trusted service providers who help us run the app, such as:
- Database hosting (Supabase) to store your entries and progress.
- AI model providers to generate chat responses.
- RevenueCat, Apple and Google for handling in-app purchases and subscriptions.
- Push notification and analytics providers to send reminders and understand app usage.
These providers act as processors on our behalf and may only use your data to provide their service
to us under strict contractual terms.
5. Your rights & deleting your data
You are in control of your data and can:
- Delete journal entries by hand by removing them in the app (if the UI offers this).
- Turn notifications on or off at any time in the app settings and in your device settings.
- Request access or deletion of your data by contacting us.
Delete your account and all data
-
In the app: Go to Settings > Data & Privacy > Delete Account.
This is the fastest way; your Gratitude account and all associated data (journal entries, pet
progress, goals, streak, friends, etc.) will be permanently deleted from our database.
-
On the web: You can follow the instructions on our
Account Deletion page.
-
Via email: You can also request deletion by emailing
support@van-lierde.com with the subject
“Account Deletion Request” and, if possible, your User ID or a purchase receipt so we can
locate your data.
Once deleted, your data cannot be restored. Some technical logs may be retained for a short period
for security and legal reasons, but they are no longer linked in a way that identifies you.
6. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active and you use the app. If you are inactive
for a long time, we may anonymise or delete old data where reasonably possible. When you delete
your account, we delete your personal data as described above.
7. Contact
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, please contact us at
support@van-lierde.com.
